Sklenková, Kateřina ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
Kateřina Sklenková: "The 1972 Interruption of Pregnancy Law in the context of the family and women's policy of the GDR." Abstract The Bachelor's thesis focuses on the Interruptionof Pregnancy Law of 1972, which was the only law in East Germany that was passed unanimously. It gave women the option to terminate a pregnancy during its first 12 weeks without any indication. There were ambivalent views in society about this practice. After numerous protests, the churches were granted an exemptionand abortioncould be denied on the basis of faith. In the wave of resistance that rose when it became apparent that artificial terminations of pregnancy would be criminalisedagain in the process of German unification, it can be seen that the Law was generally viewed positively. The thesis places the Law in its historical context and in the context of the regime's other family and emancipation policies This text answers the question of how it was possible that such a liberal norm was in place in the GDR. It explains that there were multiple factors. First, it was the socialist regime itself, which was supposed to be scientific and egalitarian in the spirit of the Marxist revolution. Then there was pressure from within the state, where the restrictive policywas criticisedbythe general public, backed by professional...
Fraudsters or victims? Perceptions of state-controlled doping after German reunification and issues of compensation
Kousal, Jan ; Šmidrkal, Václav (advisor) ; Dimitrov, Michal (referee)
The topic of the bachelor thesis is state-controlled doping in the GDR. The aim of the thesis is to answer how these athletes were viewed after German reunification and whether they can be attributed the status of cheaters, which is so common among doping athletes in the world. At the same time, the present work examines the struggle of these athletes or other initiatives for their financial compensation. The theoretical opening chapter of the thesis deals with the general history of doping and the system of state-controlled doping in the GDR as such. The next chapter examines the development of the events surrounding East German athletes in the 1990s, when at first the reunified Germany wanted to continue the successful tradition of sport in the GDR, but after the revelation of the state-controlled doping case there was a departure from this idea. Instead, athletes began to be seen as victims during this period. The formation of the DOH Association for the Relief of Doping Victims, which started the athletes' struggle for moral and material compensation, is also part of the chapter. The next section presents the concrete results of these efforts, namely the passage of two laws to help doping victims and the success of a class action lawsuit brought by athletes against the pharmaceutical company...
Solidarity Surcharge in Germany
Le, Le Phuong ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the solidarity surcharge in Germany. The surcharge was first introduced in 1991 in order to finance the costs of the German reunification and to bridge the gap between states of western and eastern Germany. The surcharge was originally intended to be temporary for one year only, however, due to higher fiscal costs the solidarity surcharge was reintroduced in 1995. It was compulsory for all taxpayers until the end of 2020. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to explain why the solidarity surcharge was abolished right at the beginning of 2021. To answer this question, two initial hypotheses have been defined. First, the states of eastern Germany have reached the same economic level as the western ones. In this part of the research, the thesis discusses mainly the financial strength of the states, which is demonstrated by the example of the equalisation payments. Second, the national economic situation of the Federal Republic of Germany made it possible to abolish the solidarity surcharge without negatively affecting public finances. To verify this theory, the German state budgets are examined and then confronted with the revenue from the solidarity surcharge. Furthermore, the thesis also covers the public debate on the introduction and subsequent abolition of the...

Similarly, the thesis deals with nationality policy in the GDR and examines the application of Leninist nationality policy in the work of the umbrella organization Domowina and in bilingual education in Lausitz. The last chapter mentions collectivisation and industrialisation, which significantly affected the situation of Lusatian Sorbs, but do not fall within the main...

Vietnamese Community in Germany 1990 - 1995
Do Thu, Trang ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Filipová, Lucie (referee)
The Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) in the 70`s adopted and successfully integrated the boat people, who fled from war in Vietnam. On the contrary, the German Democratic Republic (GDR) had adopted in the 80`s tens of thousands of factory workers from several socialist countries, including Vietnam. Hence this, the fall of the Berlin Wall deepened the differences in the integration of these two groups. While the former "boat people" lived a decent life, their "East German" compatriots waited years for the allocation of permits to stay and faced the attacks of right-wing extremists. However, the era after the German reunification had also brought many opportunities to start a business freely and independently, even to start a family. This thesis clearly describes the different developments within the Vietnamese community in Germany between the years of 1990-1995, which stemmed precisely from the different conditions of emigration from Vietnam. The first part focuses mainly on the characterization of the Vietnamese workers in the GDR and the boat people. This allows comparing the different integration of both groups in other chapters. In contrast, the other ones deal with the specific issues that affected the Vietnamese community in years 1990-1995. Especially, the political struggle for the status of former...
